What is Intergroup?

Your Dallas AA Central Office.

Dallas Intergroup Association (DIA) is your local A.A. service office that involves partnership among groups in our community—just as A.A. groups themselves are partnerships of individuals. As a “group of groups,” DIA’s primary purpose is to aid A.A. groups in their common purpose of carrying the A.A. message to the alcoholic who still suffers.

To make AA service work possible we:

• Operate a 24/7 hotline for AA information and support

• Maintain updated schedules on the Meeting Guide app and our website.

• Coordinate 12th Step and service opportunities

• Provide local access to AA literature and sobriety medallions with a bookstore, open Monday-Friday, 10-5.

• Encourage participation in local AA events via our online events calendar and flyer distribution

• Employ full and part-time office staff, and coordinate AA volunteers to ensure uninterrupted services.

Is Dallas Intergroup part of AA? 

In short, yes! Service centers usually have no authority on their own account; they derive it from participating groups. Intergroup/central offices are essentially A.A. service entities, “directly responsible to those they serve,” as described in Tradition Nine. Local group representatives (IGRs) reflect the groups’ conscience in the service center operations. In most communities, an intergroup/central office committee or steering committee is set up to handle the administrative activities of the service office. At the Dallas Intergroup, the Board of Trustees fills this steering committee role. The board holds regularly scheduled meetings and deals with general policy and plans. Periodically, the board reports to group representatives on intergroup/central office problems and accomplishments. It is extremely important to keep a two-way flow of information going between the intergroup/central office and groups.
